It’s About: US intelligence officer Amanda Waller assembles a team of dangerous criminals to be used as disposable assets in high risk missions. One of the recruits, Dr. June Moone whose body is possessed by an evil witch named Enchantress turns on Amanda Waller for imprisoning her and lays a plot to eradicate humankind. Now it’s up to Task Force X to save the world.
Quick Facts: Starring Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jared Leto as the Joker, Cara Delevingne as June Moone/Enchantress and Will Smith as Dead Shot, the movie is based on DC comics, rated 6.4 on IMDb and 40% on Metacritic.
My Take: This movie is a perfect example of the famous saying, much ado about nothing! Suicide Squad was one of the most talked about movies of 2016 and gathered plenty attention before its release. Unfortunately, the movie turned out to be utter chaos in the name of fun and super-villain action. From beginning to end, the film created a hype which couldn’t result in a proper walk through or climax.
Like every other super hero/villain movie, it did have some interesting characters with background stories containing potential for a high end drama, though they couldn’t craft a bang on plot with it.
I particularly enjoyed Harley Quinn and Joker’s story in the flashbacks. The duo gave great performance but sadly it was not enough to lift the load of this too many characters filled story. Margot Robbie did a wonderful job with the role and you cannot imagine anybody else doing such justice to the character.
Here, I must add that Cara’s acting as June Moone/Enchantress was also one of the few good things about the movie.
Apart from Harley and Joker and some this and that scenes, the movie was a complete disappointment for me. I think rather than making a sequel they should invest some thoughts in giving us a Harley-Joker Vs Batman kind of stuff next time.
My Rating: I would give this one 2 out of 5 stars.
That being said, this movie is a one time watch, that too for superhero movie fans only.
Until next time, this is Zee signing off…
